Flower Power

This large painting is made from a reversible sequin fabric. These sequins reveal a different color depending on their orientation. The drawing traced through these sequins reveals a detail of a still life by Jan Van Brueghel the Younger: Large bouquet of flowers in an Italian majolica vase. We thus see an immense expanse representing flowers in this medium that is both sparkling and seductive, the image of which is revealed to be just as fragile, by the nature of the material. A relationship is then established between the image, a still life intended to demonstrate the vanity of our existence and a material whose nature calls for the ephemeral.
