MATHIEU VALADE MANIFESTE
This is a video installation that functions like a polyptych. On the wall, twelve good-sized flat screens are aligned (three high by four wide).
Each monitor features a different video, modeled after the opening credits of George Lucas' Star Wars films. In the original films, these opening credits feature text scrolling from the bottom of the screen to the top with a perspective effect against a starry cosmic sky. The text provides the viewer with context for the other installments in the story.
However, in the version I am proposing to you, each screen offers the reading of a great artistic manifesto from the Dadaists to today, via the Situationists, Fluxus and company. Each video is edited in a loop so as to always start again.
All of these videos play simultaneously, but since the manifestos are of different lengths, the music from each one overlaps to create a great cacophony. This is the original soundtrack from the movie Star Wars.
