Nocturne
This sculpture-installation consists of a cylinder-shaped structure, inside which twenty-two televisions are installed vertically. The top and bottom rows show a symmetrically reversed video. The televisions in each row show the same video: a panoramic camera movement filmed in an undergrowth, turning slowly, then faster and faster, until the videos are nothing more than pixel movements, then, slowing down again, slower and slower, until they stop and start again in the opposite direction. The sequence is filmed at dusk. It is dark and gradually gets darker.
You can experience it by placing yourself in the center of the device. In this way, you are completely put in the situation. The video rotates around you. You can also watch through the gaps between the televisions. In this way, we have more perspective, but we cannot have the immersive experience of the video.
This installation invites us to let ourselves be caught up in the different temporalities, sometimes slow, sometimes too fast, of the videographic movement. It invites us to take a position “in” or “outside” the forest.
